How We Test Whether A Game Really Works Offline

March 31, 2026 · Markus Feldkamp

People assume 'offline' is a yes-or-no label, but it's messier than that. Some games load offline and then quietly break when you try to save. Others work until an ad or update forces a connection.

Our process is simple. We install over Wi-Fi, switch on airplane mode, and then try to play a full session from launch to save. If anything stalls, we note exactly where.

We also relaunch cold with no signal, because a game that only works if it was already open doesn't count as offline in our book.

It's tedious, but it's the whole reason the site exists. A verified-offline label should actually mean something.
