Big Bass Bonanza

We spent a rainy weekend with Big Bass Bonanza and came away pretty charmed. It's a casual fishing title where you cast, wait for a nibble and reel in with a quick timing tap. The controls are almost too simple to explain, which is the whole point — you can play it one-handed on a bus without thinking too hard.

What kept us coming back is the little sense of rhythm. Each catch has a short animation, the water shifts color as the scenery changes, and there's a low-key soundtrack that fades into the background. It runs completely offline, so the crossword-of-fishing loop is there whenever you want it, no loading screens waiting on a server.

It's not a deep game and doesn't pretend to be. But as something to open for five minutes between tasks, it does its job well. The presentation is bright and friendly, and the reeling feedback feels good enough that we kept doing it long after we meant to stop.
